Video captures deadly Russian missile hit Ukraine theater
The moment that a Russian missile attack struck a theater in the northern city of Chernihiv Saturday was captured on camera.
Video shared online by the Kyiv Post shows the moment of impact, a firey blast that slammed into the Chernihiv Drama Theater. The Russian attack also slammed into a university.
At least seven people were killed, including a 6-year-old girl, while 12 children were among the 117 wounded, acting mayor Oleksandr Lomanko said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was visiting Sweden during the attack.
Zelenksy posted footage of the wreckage showing debris lying on the streets of the city, which is about 90 miles north of the capital Kyiv.
“This is what a neighborhood with a terrorist state is, this is what we unite the whole world against. A Russian missile hit right in the center of the city, in our Chernihiv,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram. “A square, the polytechnic university, a theater.
“An ordinary Saturday, which Russia turned into a day of pain and loss,” he continued.
The Ukrainian Interior Ministry said the roof of a drama theater was destroyed in the attack.
Kyiv’s air force also said early Saturday that the military shot down 15 of 17 Iranian-made Shahed drones Russia launched in an overnight strike.
