Six charged in shooting that killed Georgia newlywed
Six people, including four teenagers, have been charged in the Georgia shooting that killed an innocent, newlywed bystander earlier this year.
Nekhi Parks,18, Montrez Nix, 17, Brian Massey Jr., 15, Nicholas Collier, 15, and brothers Donnellius Thomas, 22, and Zaydren Thomas, 20, were all charged with murder in connection to the March 18 death of Antwan Penn, the Albany Police Department announced at press conference on Wednesday.
Penn, 35, was fatally shot in his car when he and his wife of four months, Courtney Duncan-Penn, were caught in the crossfire of a gang-related shooting, authorities said.
Penn-Duncan was shot in the head, but survived, WSBTV reported.
Sgt. Lataevia Jackson said the couple was shot in a case of mistaken identity when the six went out looking for the culprits who fired at one of their homes about an hour earlier.
“Mr. Penn and Mrs. Penn were coming from a family function [when they were shot],” Jackson said.
Police confirmed that gang charges will also be added in the case.
In addition to his new wife, Penn is also survived by five children.
