Rep. Lauren Boebert’s estranged husband blames himself for divorce
Vaping Rep. Lauren Boebert’s estranged husband is begging people to give her “a chance” after her steamy “Beetlejuice” date night — blaming her behavior on his own cheating putting her through a “devastating divorce.”
The firebrand congresswoman had already blamed her “public and difficult divorce” for the behavior that got her booted from a Denver theater Sunday night.
On Monday, her now-estranged husband of 18 years, Jayson, agreed — while taking “full responsibility” for “the breakdown of our marriage.”
“I was unfaithful to Lauren in so many ways,” he wrote on Facebook — asking people “to show grace and mercy towards Lauren in this troubling season.”
Jayson Boebart’s mea culpa, addressed to “the people of Colorado’s 3rd District and across the nation,” was in response to “the deep concerns circulating” about his ex.
“Watching the attacks against Lauren, I feel the people should know the truth of our broken marriage and burden she has carried for too long,” he wrote.
Describing his soon-to-be ex as having been “an exceptional wife, mother and now grandmother,” Jayson wrote that Boebert “has provided me with love, support, and honored me through every misstep.
“Her strengths were always used to cover my weaknesses. Throughout our 20 years together, she has been my rock, my confidant, and my best friend.
“Her unwavering commitment to our family has been truly admirable, and I am devastated by the pain I have caused her,” he continued.
Jayson then blamed himself for the marital downfall.
“I take full responsibility for my actions, and I deeply regret the choices I made that led to the breakdown of our marriage. I was unfaithful to Lauren in so many ways,” he wrote.
“I should have always brought my best just as she did. My actions were selfish and thoughtless, and I failed to consider the consequences they would ultimately have on the person I hold dearest in my heart.
“This has been a devastating divorce that I hold all responsibility for. It upsets me that everyone believes she left me over fame or a new lifestyle. That is far from the truth. Then again, most of what’s said about our family is untrue,” he added.
Jayson ended his lengthy mea culpa by addressing Boebert directly.
“Lauren, if you are reading this, please know that I am dedicated to doing everything in my power to rebuild the trust that has been shattered. I stand behind you. You are the hardest working person I know, selfless and overflowing with love,” he wrote.
“I hate the attacks that are coming your way. In part, this is my fault and you don’t deserve this,” Jayson added.
He also asked people to “show grace and mercy towards Lauren in this troubling season” – and said, “she deserves a chance to earn your forgiveness and regain trust.”
Boebert, who filed for divorce in May after 20 years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences, reacted to his overture in a statement to The Daily Beast.
“I am appreciative to hear of Jayson’s sincere comments. This is a new season for us both grace and prayers for our family are welcomed by all,” the Republican firebrand told the outlet Monday.
Boebert and her date, Aspen bar co-owner Quinn Gallagher, were booted from the family performance at Denver’s Buell Theater on Sept. 10 after she blew a plume of vape smoke into the air — but footage also showed the mom of four groping his crotch mid-show.
Initially, a spokesperson for Boebert denied reports that she was kicked out from the musical for vaping, but the congresswoman later struck a conciliatory tone when video evidence emerged.
“There’s no perfect blueprint for going through a public and difficult divorce, which over the past few months has made for a challenging personal time for me and my entire family,” Boebert wrote on social media.
“I’ve tried to handle it with strength and grace as best I can, but I simply fell short of my values on Sunday. That’s unacceptable and I’m sorry,” she added.
The Republican rabble-rouser had reportedly been dating Gallagher for months.
He co-owns the Hooch Craft Cocktail Bar in Aspen, which has hosted a drag show in the past.
Boebert, who has a rap sheet of arrests, has been fiercely critical of drag shows for military recruitment and in classrooms.
On Monday, she returned to Washington, DC, and told TMZ that “all future date nights have been canceled” between her and Gallagher.
“I learned to check party affiliations before you go on a date,” Boebert told the outlet, referring to Gallagher.
Although she alluded to his affiliation as a Democrat, the GOP stalwart said the break-up had nothing to do with the various reports on Gallagher in recent days.
In January, the Hooch Craft Cocktail Bar staged “a Winter Wonderland Burlesque & Drag Show.”
“He’s a wonderful man, and it was a great time to go out and have dinner and enjoy part of a show,” Boebert told TMZ.
