NYC absent from top 10 US foodie cities list — and No. 1 will shock you
Researchers at WalletHub just gave foodies some potentially surprising data to chew on.
Their new power ranking of America’s best “foodie” cities not only relegates the Big Apple outside of the top 10 but also includes many unlikely entries in the eater’s elite.
The personal finance website claimed that it “compared more than 180 U.S. cities across 28 key indicators of foodie-friendliness,” including factors such as high-quality food affordability, accessibility and cuisine diversity.
Orlando — home of more than 14 theme parks and countless fried novelties — took WalletHub’s top prize as the US’ best foodie destination.
Following Florida’s surprise-lead, the list takes a turn to the West Coast with Portland — also ranked as one of America’s coolest cities over NYC — at no. 2, followed by Sacramento, CA, Miami and San Francisco.
Florida — the only state to represent the East Coast in the top 10 — makes its third entry with Tampa at no. 6; then it’s back to the West with San Diego, Las Vegas, Austin and Seattle.
Meanwhile, New York landed at a paltry no. 20, just above Houston at no. 19 and Oakland at no. 21.
Elsewhere in the northeast, Boston, the land of dirty water and chowder, posted at no. 69, Providence took no. 66 and food truck central New Haven hit at no. 76. Cheesesteak paradise Philadelphia flew to no. 34.
In the NY metro area, Jersey City — home to Razza, one of the world’s best pizzas — ranked at no. 58, Newark was 61, and Yonkers was a lowly no. 144. Wing and beef on weck haven Buffalo herded at no. 41 while the deep dish pizza land of Chicago was no. 14, one slot above number no. 13’s Los Angeles.
Pearl City in Hawaii was saddled with last place in the no. 182 spot ranking.
