‘Neck trick’ hack to see if jeans fit without trying them on

Trying to find the perfect pair of jeans is a struggle, but has TikTok unearthed the ultimate hack?

Content creators are swearing by a handy jean trick to ensure the perfect fit: putting the waistband around your neck to determine the right size for your waist. If they wrap around perfectly — with no excess fabric around your neck — they’re sure to fit around your midsection.

TikTokers are flocking to clothing stores to see if the trick really works — and hoping to save time in the future by skipping dressing room lines.

The search “jean hacks around neck” has more than 337 million views so far, with users attempting — and some debunking — the so-called hack.

Inspired by the idea, content creator Nicole Fay posted a TikTok Tuesday of her successful attempt — garnering 3.3 million views in under 24 hours.

“Holy s – – t, they fit,” the surprised TikToker exclaims at the end of the clip. “What the
f – – k?! How do you guys come up with this?!”

Previously, a TikToker named Halley racked up 2.2 million views on her video explaining the hack earlier in August.

However, some viewers claimed the “new” trick has long been a tradition in non-American households.

“Ya’ll just finding this out ???” wrote one viewer.

But others just seemed bewildered.

“Not all of us chocking ourselves at the stores now,” quipped someone else.

But not everyone is sold on the trick, with some users noting that people with curvier bodies aren’t as lucky to find a perfect pair with a simple TikTok hack.

One TikToker, who goes by Allison, tested the denim fit technique, but it proved to be a bust.

“I think a lot of us have seen or heard the little hack that if jeans fit around your neck, they will fit on your body. I’m here to tell you that it’s not true for all bodies,” she said in a clip with more than 73,000 views. “If you are like me and you have an apron belly, this little hack, it’s not for us, ladies.”

She showed herself putting a pair of size 16 jeans around her neck — where they wrapped around perfectly, according to other TikTok demonstrations — but when she went to slip them on earlier in the week, she said they didn’t fit.

“Do they fit around my neck? Yup. Do they fit around my belly? No,” she continues. “Debunked!”

Commenters agree with Allison, saying they tried the hack themselves and it didn’t work either — even without the “apron” stomach.

“Correct. I don’t even have an apron belly and nope. Doesn’t work,” wrote one disappointed user.

“But do they make a great cape,” joked someone else.

“Omg finally! It doesn’t work for me either!” commented another.

The hack — which only works for some — is similar to a trendy trick that went viral in 2020 when women were attempting to find their “perfect” jean size using their forearms. TikToker Billie Newland insisted that if you place your arm horizontally inside the waistband — and it was the exact length of your forearm — that the jeans would fit.
