Kim Kardashian says Kanye West helped create Skkn by Kim
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West might not be married anymore, but they’re still partners in business.
To mark the launch of her Skkn by Kim skincare line Tuesday, the reality superstar took to Instagram to share an inside look at the brand’s beginnings, revealing that she couldn’t have done it without her ex.
“My creative process wouldn’t have been complete — and I always give credit where credit is due — without Kanye,” Kardashian, 41, said on her Stories.
“He brought his team and introduced me to [creative director] Willo [Perron] and we came up with the new name. That was actually his idea, and the packaging shapes were his, and even the font he did — just like Skims.”
Kardashian’s new products come in sleek spherical and cylindrical vessels in her (and West’s) preferred neutral color palette, with the 45-year-old rapper — a notorious perfectionist — overseeing the development.
“You guys should have seen the first set of packaging … Kanye walked in the room and was like, ‘This is not it.’ And he was right,” the Skims founder recalled. “Packaging is definitely his thing.”
In the past year, Kardashian announced she was shutting down both her KKW Beauty and KKW Fragrance websites and rebranding both lines, with many speculating that she wanted to scrub the “W” from her companies’ names amid her divorce from West, with whom she shares four children.
The star was declared legally single in March, and removed her married last name from her social media accounts days after the ruling.
But a source close to the Kardashian told Page Six Style last summer that the Yeezy designer “helped come up with the new name” for her beauty line, in addition to assisting with the products’ packaging and branding.
And in April, the star said the real reason behind the rebrand was about streamlining her empire and making it easier for fans to shop.
“I felt so bad that the customer had to go from KKW Beauty, then would go to KKW Skin, then would go to KKW Fragrance — that’s shipping costs at three different websites. And then Skims, you know what I mean? So I wanted one beauty brand,” Kardashian said on the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast.
