Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter Ella Emhoff makes wild NYFW appearance
Vice President Kamala Harris’ model stepdaughter Ella Emhoff made her second buzzworthy and bizarre appearance at New York Fashion Week.
The 23-year-old — who is the daughter of the vice president’s husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, and his first wife, Kerstin — wore a head-to-toe green screen-inspired balaclava dress during the Maisie Wilen runway show on Tuesday.
Her neon fit — with black and white hazard label-like circles sporadically placed on the garment— only exposed her famous face as Emhoff wore matching gloves, socks and a headpiece to walk the runway.
Maisie Wilen’s Spring/Summer 2023 designs featured CGI and special effects techniques used in filmmaking to show how fashion can evolve in a digital world.
“Maisie Wilen has always been digital-first, so innovation within tech is a natural progression of the brand,” the brand said in a press release, according to Gotham. “The Spring/Summer 2023 features motion-capture markers applied directly to the garments via print. These small symbols and dots, typically used in filmmaking by special-effects artists, allows the digital process to proceed beyond the development phase and evolve infinitely.”
“Prints also feature lens flares and exaggerated manipulated faces, representing the surreal, vividly distorted products of the methods referenced. The runway show’s greenscreen set enables further distortion while mimicking the environment of its movie-making inspiration,” the release concluded.
Accessorized with only circular glasses and black stripper-esque platform heels, the NYFW appearance was Emhoff’s second after a seemingly intentional wardrobe malfunction at the Prabal Gurung show.
There, Emhoff wore a sheer green top that exposed one of her breasts.
The top, which wrapped around her neck, was paired with a black miniskirt and strappy sandals.
Emhoff’s fashion sense first caught the world’s attention at President Biden’s and Harris’ inauguration on Jan. 20, 2021, to which she wore a Miu Miu coat. At that time, she was a fashion design student at Parsons and she soon signed with the modeling agency IMG.
She makes — and occasionally sells — her own knitwear and attended the 2021 Met Gala. She’s also posed for magazines like Vanity Fair and Vogue.
