Julia Fox sizzles in fiery ‘pyro coat’
Did she start the fire?
Over the weekend, Julia Fox posted a video to Instagram in which she models a black coat with an elongated, sweeping train – which appears to be going up actively going up in smoke.
“My son was conceived on this roof top 🤫,” the fashion plate, 32, captioned the clip, adding that the fiery, aptly dubbed “pyro coat” was the creation of aspiring fashion designer Sam Macer, while her look was styled by Briana Andalore.
The roughly 25-second clip, shot by artist Ben Draghi, is set to “Char” by Crystal Castles. The camera initially pans over the garment’s sizzling train before arriving at Fox, who wears a structured, black leotard and knee-high stiletto boots underneath her red-hot pièce de résistance.
Moments later, her sleeves burst into flames as well.
The designer exclusively revealed the pyrotechnical mechanisms behind the look to Page Six Style.
“The coat is leather and the sleeves and train are wrapped in stretched steel wool that is typically used by carpenters and mechanics,” Macer said.
“When the pieces burn, the steel wool disintegrates and exposes the undergarment in the process. But it burns at a low temperature making it possible to have in close proximity to the body,” he continued.
The Central Saint Martins alum, 21, also clarified that, when it comes to the physical coat itself, the sparks can fly more than once. “Due to sleeve covers and linings, the pieces can be burnt multiple times,” he explained.
Every item would still “require re-wrapping of the steel wool between each burning,” he added.
In an Instagram posted back in March, Spanish pop star Rosalía was also spotted donning the smoldering overcoat.
The multi-hyphenate Fox has become something of a fashion icon as of late, using the international visibility she’s gained since her early-2022 fling with Kanye West to promote up-and-coming designers and other creatives.
In the past few months, she’s been seen sporting a booty-baring look by Alejandre and a string bikini-style top featuring flame-shaped decals over her breasts by Seks, among other metaphorically scorching styles.
