Inside team’s boozy victory lap
Argentina’s World Cup champions kept the celebrations rolling long after their thrilling win over France on Sunday in this year’s final.
A short time after Gonzalo Montiel nailed the winning penalty kick in the shootout to give Argentina the 2022 World Cup crown, the team made its way to the locker room, where they broke open the champagne and got the boozy victory lap underway.
Documented in part by retired Argentine player Sergio Aguero, the group can be seen dancing in the dressing area, with a member of Argentina’s personnel busting out a wild move by tumbling into a bin.
Star Lionel Messi, who recorded seven total goals in this year’s tournament, was seen holding up a $10 million check and taking his talents to a table, where he grooved with the World Cup trophy.
Aguero, who retired last year at age 33 due to a medical issue, went on to share a photo of himself and Messi on Instagram, which featured them smiling after the match.
Argentina’s celebrations continued outside of the locker room, with the team enjoying a group dinner with their new hardware, according to social media footage.
Hours after the match concluded, Argentina took the festivities to new heights — literally — as members of the team kissed the trophy on the flight home.
Sunday’s win marked Argentina’s first World Cup victory since 1986 and the first of Messi’s illustrious career.
