I’m a model — but feel like a monster after an allergic reaction
Her new hairdo got a lot of looks — but for all the wrong reasons.
Luisa Kamei, 19, from Brazil, went from model to “monster” after suffering an allergic reaction to hair dye.
The influencer — who has over 13,400 followers — claims her face blew up so badly that her face looked “disfigured,” and she was unable to see out of one eye.
“On 16 December, I decided I would dye my hair, anyone who knows me knows I’ve been doing this for years,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “I’ve never had such a reaction.”
According to the teen, she woke up to an alarming sight two days after dyeing her hair, with “liquid coming out” of her scalp.
“The next day with my face swollen to the point where I couldn’t open one of my eyes,” she recounted.
“I looked in the mirror and all I could do was cry,” Kamei continued. “I felt like a monster.”
The model, concerned about the increased swelling, went to the doctor, who told her if she’d taken any longer to get medical attention the effects of the allergic reaction could have been even worse.
“Allergies to hair dyes are a very serious thing for people with sensitive skin,” she explained. Hair loss of hair and scalp wounds are some of the allergic reactions.
“A more severe allergic reaction can cause swelling and redness of the face and scalp, difficulty breathing, and even a severe, whole-body allergic reaction,” Kamei listed. “That’s what happened to me.”
Kamei warned her followers that 48-hour allergy tests recommended by manufacturers are not always enough to protect customers from a reaction.
“But today, I built up the courage to show you how I looked and highlight the issue,” she admitted. “Be careful with the type of products you use.”
Kamei’s latest Instagram post shows her in good spirits, and she appears to have recovered completely.
