I’m a Harvard-trained dermatologist — eat this every day for wrinkle-free skin
It may sound nuts, but eating almonds daily can keep your skin looking wrinkle-free, according to a dermatologist.
“I tell my patients eating three handfuls of almonds per day is a natural way to treat wrinkles,” skin cancer surgeon Dr. Neera said in a video to her TikTok, where she goes by @dermatologysurgeon. The health hack clip has more than 81,000 views since being posted in late November.
Neera, who completed her residency and skin cancer fellowship training at Harvard Medical School, told The Post: “Eating almonds may modestly, but not drastically, improve wrinkles, but more research is needed. For best results, wear daily sunscreen, use an antioxidant serum like Vitamin C and incorporate retinoids into your routine.”
The doctor also said that there’s even a study to back up her claim.
“A 24-week clinical study showed that women who consumed about 400 calories of almonds per day (roughly three handfuls) had a significant reduction in facial wrinkles/fine lines and hyperpigmentation,” she said of a study by the University of California, Davis that was published in MDPI Journals in 2021.
The study of 49 postmenopausal women found that after six months the participants in the study’s wrinkle severity decreased by 16% and hyperpigmentation decreased by 20%. At the end of the study, the women who ate almonds had an increase in skin hydration in their cheeks and forehead.
Some commenters below Neera’s video thanked her for the advice.
“OKAY İM OFF TO BUY ALMONDS NOW!” One person exclaimed.
“I’m always eating almonds it’s my fav snack,” a second added.
“Mum was right,” said a third.
Others had some follow-up questions about the skin-happy food.
“I cannot eat any nuts. Do you have a substitute?” one person asked.
Neera replied: “Omega 3 supplements may have similar benefit.”
“I’ve been told too many almonds causes kidney stones?” Another voiced.
“But otherwise three handfuls for healthy people shouldn’t cause issue,” Neera replied.
“400 calories,” someone expressed.
“I know! It’s a lot but almonds are so good for you – protein, omegas, many health benefits,” Neera assured them.
