I used ChatGPT to plan my European vacation — for just $1K

She saved money with an AI-tinerary.

As if ChatGPT didn’t simplify enough activities, OpenAI’s multifaceted chatbot could potentially change the way we navigate the world: A Tennessee travel expert is going viral after revealing how she planned a $1,000 European vacation with the help of ChatGPT, as seen in a TikTok video with nearly 240,000 views.

“I was on ChatGPT and I was like ‘Oh, you know what? I should see what it will spit out because people have been testing this for the most crazy things,’” Madison Rolley, 24, told South West News Service.

The Nashville jet-setter frequently shares travel hacks with her over 30,000 followers on TikTok as well as on her podcast “The Nomad: You.”

The travel buff says her “sole mission” is “trying to help people travel more without breaking the bank.”

For her latest globetrotting shortcut, Rolley decided to plan a vacation with ChatGPT, the expeditious tech that has been used to automate everything from academia to online dating.

She wanted to embark on a two-week Euro trip with her friend for around $1,000 per person. This would include travel and lodging across four cities, as well as three activities within each of these destinations.

“I was trying to figure out what the perfect itinerary would be to visit multiple places in a way that made sense and flowed well and also be able to budget it out,” said the Tennessean of planning her budget getaway.

After providing info on her travel preferences, the influencer prompted the bot to “build me an itinerary based on what my preferences are.”

With Rolley’s specifications in mind, ChatGPT was able to customize a detailed day-to-day AI-tinerary in just minutes, meticulously mapping out a route with planes and trains.

While her cybernetic travel agent recommended Stockholm, Amsterdam, Paris, Barcelona and Copenhagen, the digital nomad swapped out Barcelona for Brussels.

“It not only gave me the cities but it broke down how many days, the means of travel, the costs and basically the costs of everything as well as some attractions you can go visit,” the marketing guru fawned in a follow-up clip, which showed a screenshot of the detailed itinerary.

The GPT-prescribed activities for Amsterdam entailed visiting the Anne Frank Museum and the Van Gogh Museum and taking one of the legendary canal cruises.

Meanwhile, it recommended seeing the Louvre and Eiffel Tower during the Parisian portion of the jaunt.

The total price for two? $2,100, including $1,300 for 13 nights of accommodation, $300 for 12 attractions and $500 for travel, not including a flight home.

Rolley was over the moon about the time and money-saving tool, dubbing it her “favorite budget travel hack of all time” in the clip.

“It very much laid out a path that made sense to travel and it also showed how you would go about booking everything, which I thought was really cool,” gushed the traveler, who plans to leave for Europe on July 3.

Of course, using ChatGPT as a travel consultant isn’t without its caveats, namely that it is very “limited” and “doesn’t know you,” Rolley warned.

“You’re the only person that can know what you’ll like and what you won’t like,” she said. “But it can at least give some very solid inspiration for planning your next trip and maybe helping you with generalizing a budget.”

The frequent flyer advises using GPT as a blueprint, on which the traveler can add or subtract things like a custom sundae.

“You can get a little bit of an understanding of what the price is going to look like from country to country or that flight is going to look like,” Rolley explained. “Then you can go from there and actually book things and do your research and build out your budget.”
