Here’s your bold chance to join the mile-high club â but it doesn’t involve a plane
This company is blowing a whole lot more than hot air.
Joining the mile-high club is often frowned upon, but one company is encouraging it.
A hot air balloon company in Southern California offers “Mile High Flights” over the Temecula countryside — where guests have their own private area to get steamy in the sky.
Patrons of Magical Adventure Balloon Rides will get to enjoy the views above the Southern California wine country, with a privacy screen separating the pilot from the passengers.
Once the hot air balloon reaches 5,280 feet in the air, the pilot will pull a privacy screen to give adventurous lovers the OK to get busy. The screen creates two completely separate compartments in the balloon.
And don’t worry — the company promises the pilot will be wearing protective hearing gear and focused solely on flying so you can get to it without worry.
“What happens in the basket stays in the basket,” pilot Denni Barrett told Thrillist.
“For the pilots, it’s all business,” he said. “We’re focusing on navigation, flying, and trying to stay away from other balloons so that they don’t have any spectators.”
If you’re wondering if people actually have balloon sex, Barrett can attest that they do.
“Somebody who operated a drone from a distance sent me a picture and said, ‘Hey, we’re just kind of curious, what was going on there?’” Barrett said.
“I don’t want to be indelicate, but OK, I’ll just be direct: They were [doing it] doggy-style, with the woman over the side of the basket…so she could look out.”
But Barrett promised that the hot air balloons are a no judgment zone, and couples should feel free to do as they please.
“We’re like the priest in the confessional booth,” he said. “If somebody has a fantasy about having outdoor sex, then this would certainly check that box.”
Though there is a privacy screen, at least one couple has requested that Barrett leave it down for the sake of the thrill — though the pilot said he “spent a lot of time looking away.”
Lovers are encouraged to bring their own bedding and playlist for their trip in the sky, and a complimentary champagne breakfast is included in the package. The company also provides bluetooth speakers so the couple can use their playlist to drown out noise.
Once in the air, the flight lasts about an hour — and the pilots tell passengers to yell “really loud” if they need anything, considering the noise cancelling headphones will be in use.
Pilots will give the couple 15-, 10- and 5-minute warnings before descending — but sometimes the passengers ask for more time.
“There have been several times where people have decided they wanted seconds or thirds,” Barrett said. “There was one guy who was like, ‘Hey, can you fly just 10 minutes longer, please?’”
For two people, the flight starts at $1,400. But if you’re into having more people, there’s a larger 10-person basket, and each extra adult is $159.
According to Barrett, the Mile High Flights are one of the most popular packages for the company. It also comes with a commemorative certificate and a pin that declares you a member of the Mile High Club.
“These make great conversation pieces whether guests did or did not do anything in the air,” he said. “I’ve also had nudists buy the Mile High package just because they wanted to commune with nature, naked in the air, and not do anything sexually.”
