Hairdresser finds 150-egg lice infestation in client’s hair
This was quite louse-y.
An Australian hairdresser shocked social media users with a now-viral video showing a client’s massive lice infestation.
Rachel Maroun posted the TikTok last month — which has since gained 5.2 million views — on her page, which she dedicates to treating other people’s infestations.
In the video, the beautician claims that she was quickly able to tell that her client had been suffering from lice for a few months due to the fact the creepy crawler’s eggs were visible.
“Eggs are typically laid really close to the scalp,” explained Maroun. “So I can tell that these had been just growing out with her hair.”
Maroun revealed that a full-grown parasite can lay up to 150 eggs.
“150 eggs each is a recipe for a quick infestation,” said Maroun.
Unfortunately, the process of removing the pesky bugs is a lengthy one.
“There is not a chemical product out there that is going to break down these eggshells or remove them for you so you have to comb through,” says the woman.
According to Maroun, she uses a cleaning cloth to wipe her brush clean. This also serves to help her get a better understanding of what kind of lice she is dealing with.
“This helps me know where we’re at with the lice lifecycle and helps me know when I can move on to the next section,” states Maroun.
Several TikTok users said that the video made their own skin crawl.
“This made my head itch,” said one user.
“Worst fear,” stated another.
A third user said that they would simply “shave their hair” while several other users declared the video brought memories of the times they had lice.
Maroun first went viral in August of 2022 after she posted a video of her delousing a young girl who had been stuck with lice for nearly six months due to COVID-19.
According to the video — which now has nearly 8 million views — the entire process took all day.
“The family of the client were left inside with very little materials to treat the lice at home,” Maroun explained to NeedToKnow. “[They were] relying on chemical shampoos and cheap lice combs that had no effect on the super lice case they were struggling with.”
Maroun said that the easiest way to rid the child of the creepy crawlers was to simply shave her hair off, but the hairdresser said that she did not want to deprive the “brunette Rapunzel” of her hair.
“I spent about three hours over each appointment combing through her hair,” recalled Maroun. “Some spots I couldn’t even go near on the first treatment – above her ear was filled with eggs and it had caused to hair to be locked up in a sticky situation.”
“We took our time and just went with what she was comfortable with – and we did it,” concluded the beautician.
