Gotham FC hires Juan Carlos Amoros as head coach
NJ/NY Gotham FC has a new head coach following a last-place finish in the NWSL.
The local professional women’s soccer league club has hired Juan Carlos Amoros, who led the Houston Dash to the playoffs as their interim coach this season.
“I’m proud to have this opportunity to work with the players and staff on building Gotham FC into the club this community and our incredible fans deserve,” said Amoros in a team release. “The players will know they have a coaching staff who teaches and listens, and we will always work together to create an exciting brand of football for our fans. I cannot wait to get started and show our fans what Gotham FC will be, and I’m determined to lead this club to become a global destination in the football world.”
Gotham FC parted ways with coach Scott Parkinson in August following a 4-8-0 start to the season. They finished 4-17-1.
The 38-year-old Amoros also has previously coached top tier women’s clubs in Spain and England. The deal is for three years, the team announced.
“Juan Carlos is an experienced and ambitious coach who is highly respected by players for his tactical knowledge and leadership,” Gotham FC GM and head of soccer operations Yael Averbuch West said in a statement. “He shares a strong belief in our vision for Gotham FC, and we are very excited to bring him to NJ/NY.”
The Gotham FC roster features current and recent USWNT players such as Kristie Mewis, Ashlyn Harris, Ali Krieger, Allie Long and Margaret Purce.
