Florida man accused of drowning dog in pool during fit of revenge in domestic dispute
A Florida man was arrested after allegedly drowning his family’s dog in a community pool in a fit of vengeance during a domestic dispute, police said.
Corey Vaughn Dacres, 25, was arrested Sunday after killing his family’s beloved pit bull terrier named Unity at the San Tropez apartment complex pool in Pembroke Pines, officials said.
Police said Dacres left his residence with the 6-year-old dog in tow following a heated argument with his family Sunday night, tossing the helpless pooch over the fence towards the community pool.
After hopping the 5-foot fence, Dacres proceeded to shove Unity underwater, holding the pit bull there until she drowned.
He then returned home to tell his family what he had just done, prompting them to call police.
“It appears that the actions that he took to kill the family dog was a revengeful action as a result of an argument he had with his family,” Pembroke Pines Police spokesperson Al Xiques told NBC 6.
Responding officers found Dacres soaking wet in his home, with Unity’s lifeless body sinking in the bottom of the swimming pool, according to the arrest record.

Pembroke Pines said the case remains an active criminal investigation and did not provide any further details about the incident.
Dacres was charged with a felony count of aggravated animal cruelty and transported to Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail Bureau in Fort Lauderdale.
