Doctor claims regular ice baths boosted her sexual desire — is it true?

A Brazilian doctor says taking regular ice baths has helped boost her libido and supercharge her sex life.
Dr. Camilla Lewin, who also competed in Miss World Fitness 2022, made the unusual claim in an interview on Wednesday, saying she now frequently feels frisky after freezing her physique in frigid waters.
“It improved my sexual appetite,” the 31-year-old excitedly told NudePR.com. “I believe it is one of the best practices for health.”
“When I found this completely natural and hormone-free format, it was a great discovery for me,” lusty Lewin further proclaimed. “I didn’t expect it, it was a surprise! Now I separate several bags of ice for my bathtub”.
“I am in favor of stimulating our libido, of finding ways to give ourselves pleasure,” she added.
Dr. Robert Glatter, an assistant professor of emergency medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, told The Post that those who want to enhance their sex lives should follow Lewin’s advice and take the plunge — quite literally.
“Preliminary research has suggested that cold-water immersion can increase the release of luteinizing hormone produced in the pituitary gland in your brain,” he explained. “Release of the hormone may also increase testosterone production in men and trigger ovulation and progesterone production in women, potentially leading to increased libido.”
Lewin said she first started taking ice baths to treat muscle pain before realizing the unexpected impact the activity had on her libido.
“With a dip in an ice bath, it is possible to alleviate symptoms such as swelling and redness,” she said, citing other benefits of the practice. “It promotes vasoconstriction, reducing local blood flow and cell permeability.”
The doctor even claimed that ice baths and other forms of cryotherapy can help reduce cellulite and sagging.
While there is no consensus among medics in regard to that claim, Lewin isn’t the first doctor to declare that ice baths enhance a person’s sex drive.
Last year, Singaporean sexologist Dr. Oberdan Marianetti told the South China Morning Post believes that ice baths boost sexual performance and experience because they help with blood flow.
“Physiologically much of the sexual experience relies on a healthy cardiovascular system and a healthy nervous system, because both the penis and vulva are erectile organs that rely on a strong blood flow to become engorged and allow penetration to occur to lead up to a pleasurable experience,” he stated.
“When you expose the body to extreme cold, blood vessels narrow as a result of vasoconstriction, the response whereby the blood vessels contract, especially in the extremities to push blood to the vital organs.”
Dr. Glatter also told The Post that ice baths may also lead to “increased blood flow to sexual organs, resulting in heightened sexual arousal in the hours after.” However, he said more definitive research is needed to confirm such reported effects.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mark Hyman — who recently hit headlines for claiming he has a “biological age” two decades less than his actual age — says he also swears by ice baths.
“Ice baths and other hydrotherapies have been found to boost the immune system, help treat autoimmune inflammation, ease pain and speed recovery from sports injuries and greatly increase insulin sensitivity,” he stated in an Instagram post shared on Tuesday.
Celebrities have also taken the plunge, professing their love of ice-cold experiences.
Earlier this year Kourtney Kardashian took to Instagram to show herself submerged in an ice bath. The “Poosh” founder was such a fan of the frigid experience that she purportedly purchased her own ice tub for the cool cost of $7500.
Meanwhile, big sister Kim Kardashian was also seen shivering alongside her sibling in her own pricey, private tub.
The “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” star — who shot to global fame after starring in a sex tape — didn’t disclose with the activity had any impact on her libido.
