Days Inn rolls out talking pillows voiced by ‘Seinfeld’ alum
You might check into a hotel with a hot date, but this hotel chain has its own ideas about the pillow talk.
Days Inn by Wyndham has tapped actor and voiceover artist Patrick Warburton — famous for his role as Elaine’s on-again, off-again boyfriend David Puddy in “Seinfeld” — to be the voice of new talking pillows that are being placed in select properties across the country.
These canary-yellow pillows dish out compliments when a guest hits a “press here” button on the top right-hand corner of the pillow — thankfully they aren’t motion-activated a la Big Mouth Billy Bass.
“We wanted a voice that was recognizable and that would instantly brighten guests’ days,” said Anthony Pizzuto, senior director of marketing and operations at Days Inn by Wyndham.
Warburton dishes out good vibes with pre-loaded phrases like, “Whoa, those are some awesome PJs” and, “I love having pillow talk with you.”
Warburton even went rogue, straying from the script — which, of course, includes advertisement-level phrases like, “Wake up, wake up, wake up my favorite Days Inn guest” — to add his own accolades.
The most flattering (or frightening, depending on how you look at it) is, “Mmmm … Have I told you your hair smells fabulous today? Yes, it does. I don’t know what you’re using, but it’s just amazing.”
According to Days Inn’s press release about the promotion, “Compliments are scientifically proven to go a long way in brightening someone’s day. In fact, a recent study from the Society of Personality and Social Psychology, shows they “reduce stress, lift spirits, and give a sense of renewed confidence.”
In other words, they’re the antithesis of every Angry Cat meme.
Pizzuto didn’t disclose where Days Inn got the inspiration for this unusual promotion. However, he did say their goal was to make guests smile and help them “seize the days.”
“Yes, we’ve got comfy beds, a great breakfast, free Wi-Fi — all things families look for when they’re planning that summer vacation,” said Pizzuto. “We also like to have a bit of fun, though, and that’s what this pillow does.”
The world’s nicest pillow sounds cool, no doubt. But if Days Inn really wants to deliver in the fun department, next time they need to partner with Tickle Me Elmo.
