Scheana Shay reveals her solution for postpartum hair loss
Scheana Shay has found a fix for her “biggest insecurity.”
Self-conscious about her hairline for years, the “Vanderpump Rules” star became downright desperate after she started experiencing postpartum hair loss following the birth of her 1-year-old daughter, Summer Moon, in April 2021.
But she’s since landed on a combination of products that help: Nutrafol hair growth supplements and Me Cosmetics Ultimate Coverage Scalp Foundation ($60).
“I feel so confident in my hair game again,” Shay, 37, exclusively told Page Six Style Thursday in Beverly Hills while celebrating her new role as Me Cosmetics’ first-ever brand ambassador.
Opening up about the root of the issue, she said, “If you watch the show, you know I have a good side and I have a bad side … my hairline typically goes back further on the right side. So that’s just always bothered me.”
But Shay began noticing shedding on her “good side” about five months after Summer was born, telling us her makeup artist would use whatever cosmetics she had on hand to camouflage the hair loss for “Vanderpump Rules” shoots.
For 20 years, Me Cosmetics founder and CEO Camille Barreto (who suffers from androgenetic alopecia) did the same thing — applied eyeshadow and hoped for the best.
Unsatisfied with the result, she dedicated herself to years of research and development to create the first-ever pressed powder scalp foundation that uses rich, reflective color to conceal bald spots and give the appearance of thicker, fuller hair.
When Shay learned about the product — which comes in six shades ranging from black-brown to pure white — it seemed the answer to her prayers.
“I was like, ‘Wait, I’m sorry, this is a scalp foundation? Sign me up!’” she told us, calling her partnership with the company “probably the most on-brand thing I’ve ever done.”
The veteran reality TV star added that talking openly about her insecurities — even hairy ones — is simply part of her job.
“People can relate to things we’re going through, real human experiences: postpartum, hair loss, everything in between,” she said.
“That’s why I opened up about my miscarriage. There’s so many things that we [as women] experience, and if we talk about them, I think it really helps people.”
