Woman shot dead by ex-husband while talking to 911 operator
A Texas woman was telling 911 that her marriage had recently ended and that she was in a heated argument with her ex-husband when the man fatally shot her before turning the gun on himself, authorities said.
The apparent murder-suicide took place outside an apartment complex in the Dallas suburb of Lewisville at around 5:30 a.m. Thursday.
The former couple was having a dispute in the parking lot in the 500 block of East Farm-to-Market Road 3040 when multiple gunshots rang out.
Police said moments earlier, the woman called 911 to report the domestic incident.
“The female told dispatchers her marriage to the male had recently ended,” cops said, according to CBS News. “A short time later, while the female was on the phone with 911, multiple gunshots could be heard, and the call went silent.”
Witnesses then began calling 911 to report the shooting, telling emergency operators that the man had shot the woman and then taken his own life.
When officers arrived, they found the woman with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, and her ex-husband lying nearby with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, police said,
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead an hour later.
The suspected gunman succumbed to his injury at the hospital about an hour after the death of his ex-wife.
The man and woman’s identities have not been disclosed as of Friday morning.
Police said they were familiar with the couple from past calls to their residence related to mostly non-violent domestic violence complaints.
In one instance, however, the husband had slashed the wife’s tires, according to a police department spokesman.
