NYCFC celebrates 10th anniversary with NYC skyline-themed uniforms

New York City FC are celebrating their 10th anniversary season with new kits that are drawing inspiration from the city the team calls home.

On Wednesday, the MLS club revealed its new home uniform, which has been dubbed the “Excelsior Kit” and features a nod to the reflective nature of the glass and steel of New York City’s iconic skyline — and which The Post got an exclusive look at prior to its release.

The jersey will also feature a commemorative patch that reads “New York City Football Club since 2015.”

The patch will be worn during the club’s home opener on March 8 at Yankee Stadium and again on March 15, which will mark the 10th anniversary of the team’s first home game.

“I think the jersey is amazing. It reflects the city with the skyscrapers and everything,” NYCFC defender Birk Risa told The Post during a promotional shoot at Edge NYC ahead of the uniform release. “You know when you put on a jersey and you get a good vibe, it’s what you want. I definitely got that vibe, so it’s good.”

NYCFC kit man Danny Laroche, who has managed the team’s equipment and uniforms since the team’s first season, described the new kits as a sign of how much the organization has grown since its inception.

While Laroche acknowledged the 2021 home uniform holds a special place in his heart, since the club won its first MLS Cup championship that year, he explained all of them are special because “that’s our identity.”

“We’re known for our blue kits, [but] this one I like a little bit more,” he said.

New York City FC are beginning a new chapter in club history, not only with the reveal of the new kits, but with the installation of new head coach Pascal Jansen after Nick Cushing was fired after the club lost in the playoffs to the rival New York Red Bulls last season.

The team is also preparing to open a new soccer-specific stadium in 2027, next to Citi Field in Willets Point.
