Mile-high mayhem! Passenger restrained after apparent attempt to open emergency exit
The friendly skies have seen a festival of premature deplaning attempts of late.
This time, an unruly passenger had to be restrained by crewmembers after attempting to open the emergency exit on a flight to South Korea, as seen in a dramatic video taking off online.
The incident occurred on Friday, November 8 aboard a Korean Air flight KE658 from Bangkok, Thailand to the South Korean capital Seoul, Jam Press reported.
About an hour in, the mile-high mayhem ensued.
According to a Korean Air statement obtained by the New Zealand Herald, the unidentified male passenger had been “occupying a crew jumpseat in the emergency exit area during flight.”
When the crew members tried to get him to return to his seat, the hellion became verbally and physically aggressive and attempted to “access the emergency exit area.”
Footage shows the passenger attempting to turn the handle of the escape hatch, which fortunately does not budge despite multiple tries.
He is then subsequently surrounded and restrained by the flight crew.
Korean Air representatives reported that the “passenger was relocated to a secure area where the situation was successfully de-escalated.”
Upon arrival in the Korean capital, the air barbarian was transferred to authorities “for further investigation.”
“The incident was managed according to our established security protocols, to prioritize passenger safety and operational integrity,” Korean Air reps declared.
“While the situation was successfully contained, we will [fully] cooperate with relevant authorities in the investigation of this matter,” they added.
In a similar disruption in August, an antsy passenger was arrested in Australia after he “ripped open” the emergency exit of a grounded aircraft and walked along its wing.
