Teen Spanish soccer phenom Lamine Yamal’s dad in serious condition after being stabbed
The father of global soccer icon Lamine Yamal was stabbed on Wednesday night in a car park in the Spanish town of Mataro and rushed to a local hospital, according to multiple reports.
Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia reported that Mounir Nasraoui got into an argument with locals while walking his dog and a fight broke out before he was stabbed several times leaving Nasraoui in serious condition.
Nasraoui was taken by ambulance to Can Ruti Hospital in Badalona and is said to be “out of danger,” both Reelevo and Mundo Deportivo reported about the incident.
Authorities are investigating the incident and several arrests have been made, according to news agency EFE.
El Mundo indicated that police have made three arrests.
Footage of an earlier incident purportedly between the famous footballer’s father and members of the community made the rounds on social media.
That incident appeared to have been broken up by police and happened before the reported stabbing.
The video seems to show Yamal’s father being pushed away from a verbal altercation with another person and then another clip showed police on the scene removing him from the incident.
The video ends with Nasraoui talking with two uniformed police officers.
Yamal, 17, seemed to react to the incident on social media briefly before taking down the post.
GOAL.com reported that the Barcelona and Spain superstar had posted a picture of himself with his dad along with several heart emojis before later removing the post.
Yamal played a big part in Spain winning the European Championship in July, including setting up Nico Williams for the game’s opening goal a 2-1 win over England.
Nasraoui is well known because of his son and he had been a heavy presence during the 2024 Euros that took place in Germany.
Yamal’s stardom has brought greater recognition to his father’s neighborhood of Rocafonda in Mataro.
