I had nine miscarriages by 21 — and now I’m pregnant for the 13th time

A mom has told how she coped despite suffering nine miscarriages by the age of 21 — and is now pregnant for the 13th time.

Shaycie Jane, 21, got pregnant aged just 14 after the first time she had sex — but it was her first miscarriage after she lost the baby at six weeks.

Since then she has had two full-term successful pregnancies, giving birth to healthy daughters Amber, now three, and Felicity, one.

But along the way she has miscarried another nine babies — including most recently a twin girl in November 2023.

She’s now 31 weeks pregnant and the surviving twin is due in July 2024.

Shaycie said that doctors have not found the cause of why she continues to miscarry.

Full-time mom Shaycie from Salt Lake City, Utah, has given all the babies names and feels deeply connected to each one.

She said: “I have 13 children. I am only 21 but out of all my kids only three are here with me.

“I first became a mom when I was 14 — my first baby was an angel.

“I still have a connection with all my babies.

“I love all of them and I still refer to them as my babies as it brings me back that comfort.

“Amber definitely acts like a toddler, she loves doing little projects and playing with Play-Doh.

“Felicity is very bubbly and very giggly — she loves to climb things for sure and loves saying hi to people.

“I call her my starry eyed girl.”

Shaycie had her first miscarriage aged 14 after having sex for the first time to her then boyfriend, and says she didn’t realize you could get pregnant on your first time.

Shaycie said: “I ended up finding out that I was pregnant whilst I was babysitting.

“I realized I was late for my period, while I was cleaning I noticed a stack of pregnancy tests and I took four — they all came back positive.

“My mom ended up finding out I had lost my virginity and she asked if there was a chance I could be pregnant, I said yes and she said we waited for a week.

“A week later when we were going to the hospital I realized I was miscarrying six weeks along.”

Shaycie named the baby Faith.

Shaycie then had two miscarriages in March 2019 and March 2020; twins she named Blythe and Ottilie, and Evangeline.

She then got pregnant when a condom split and found out after the relationship ended.

Amber was born in February 2021 weighing 5 pounds after she was induced at 36 weeks and five days, due to pre eclampsia — a condition that causes high blood pressure during pregnancy.

“She has such a creative personality and she loves to explore and try new things,” said Shaycie.

Shaycie had two more miscarriages with babies she named Trent and Mason.

She gave birth to daughter Felicity on July 29th, 2022, weighing 6 pounds,11 ounces..

Shaycie said: “My second pregnancy was two months before I turned 18.

“I was diagnosed with pre eclampsia at 17 weeks but at 30 weeks it disappeared which I was grateful about as I wanted a better birth experience.

“I went into labor on my own. I had been watching ‘Friends’ with my then husband and we joked that she needed to wait until the end of the episode to come.

“We finished the episode and the next morning at 2 a.m. I woke up with contractions.”

She had three more miscarriages with babies she called Semi, Pertitalia and Ciel, in September 2022, December 2022 and May 2023.

And in October 2023 she found out she was pregnant — this time with twins.

She said: “I had nine miscarriages by this point. I was three months into my then relationship.

“We used birth control and a condom but I still fell pregnant.

“There were a lot of emotions.

“I was mad because of the timing but I was convinced that I was going to have another miscarriage.”

She miscarried one twin, which she called Nivis, at six weeks, in November 2023.

She said: “I am currently 31 weeks and I am feeling a lot better about the pregnancy.

“I keep looking back and wondering how it would have been if I didn’t lose Nivis and I was still having twins.

“We were so excited to find out we were having twins — there is a huge what if.”
