Notts County owners shoot down Taylor Swift purchase rumor

Taylor Swift’s interest in football seems to be limited to the American version, for now.

The owners of League Two’s Notts County F.C. issued a statement Friday after reports that the Grammy-winning singer was interested in purchasing the club — using terms the singer and her legion of fans were sure to understand.

“As sorry as we are to disappoint the Swifties in our fanbase, we’re going to have to shake this story off,” Magpies owners Chris and Alex Reedtz said.

“There’s certainly no bad blood between ourselves and Taylor, but at such an exciting time for us and the club, she surely couldn’t have believed we would relinquish our control.”

Notts Farm gained some stateside notoriety last season after battling Wrexham for the top spot in the National League earlier this year, as chronicled in FX’s “Welcome to Wrexham” documentary.

Both clubs were promoted to League Two, where the Magpies currently reside in second place.

They face off on Saturday morning.

That Swift would be in the market for a soccer team could make some sense.

She’s been seen with Ryan Reynolds — the “Deadpool” actor and co-owner of Wrexham, along with Rob McElhenney — in recent weeks, including in a MetLife Stadium suite to see boyfriend Travis Kelce and the Chiefs take on the Jets.

Still, the Reedtz aren’t shutting the door entirely on some kind of collaboration with Swift.

“We’ll leave a blank space in tomorrow’s pre-match play list for a track from her newly-released 1989 album as a gesture of goodwill,” they said.

The international leg of Swift’s Eras Tour kicks off on Nov. 9 in Buenos Aires and will hit the UK in June 2024, so there’s plenty of time for the sides to hammer out a deal.
