Nikki Haley GOP’s best chance at beating Biden in 2024: poll

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is the only GOP presidential candidate who would beat President Biden in a hypothetical 2024 match-up, according to a new poll.

Haley, 51, had a six percentage-point lead over Biden, 80, in a CNN/SSRS poll released Thursday — with the president trailing Haley 49% to 43%.

She was the only Republican candidate to dispatch Biden above the poll’s 3.5-point margin of error.

Meanwhile, the other GOP candidates all polled neck-and-neck with Biden under the margin of error.

Former President Donald Trump, 77, drew 47% against Biden’s 46% and former Vice President Mike Pence, 64, bested him 46% to 44%.

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), 57, led the president 46% to 44% and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, 61, edged out Biden 44% to 42%.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis broke even with Biden at 47% apiece, while multimillionaire biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy trailed Biden 45% to 46%.

The poll sampled 1,259 registered voters from Aug. 25 to 31.

Still, almost half (46%) of respondents felt that any Republican contender would be preferable to Biden, while a third (32%) said the incumbent is better than any of his potential GOP foes.

Two-thirds (67%) of Democrats wanted someone other than Biden to be the party’s standard-bearer in 2024. However, that same number — 67% — also believed Biden would clinch the party nod.

When asked about Trump, 44% felt that any Democrat would be preferable, while 38% wanted Trump over any of the Democrat options.

Haley’s campaign team was quick to take a victory lap over the polling showing her commanding lead over Biden.

“NIKKI HALEY is our best hope in taking back the White House. We only have one shot. It’s time to play to win,” campaign spokesman Ken Farnaso posted on social media.

The former US ambassador to the UN under the Trump administration has seen a post-debate polling bump in recent days.

Biden’s campaign on Wednesday took a dig at her, claiming that she is pandering to the far right on education, following her town hall event with Moms for Liberty.

She is now polling in fourth place in the 2024 GOP pack, behind Ramaswamy, DeSantis and Trump, in the latest RealClearPolitics aggregate.

Trump is overwhelmingly ahead, with a staggering 38.7 percentage-point edge over his nearest foe, DeSantis, per the aggregate.
