Andreas Lehr suffered horrific injuries after being attacked on his honeymoon
A dream honeymoon turned into a nightmare for one couple after a one-punch attack left a dad with severe head trauma in hospital.
Andreas Lehr and his wife Kanisha decided to travel to Perth after their wedding to celebrate their nuptials, leaving their two children at home.
They went to see Luke Combs in concert when Andreas was brutally attacked by a stranger as the couple left the RAC Arena in Perth.
“Everyone was sort of shoulder to shoulder. Andreas put his hand out to shake this fella’s hand and asked him if he was okay, and he’s turned around and king hit him and Andreas has fallen to the ground,” Kanisha told 9News.
Andreas is spending his seventh night in Royal Perth Hospital with severe head trauma and a bleed on the brain.
Strangers, including an off duty nurse rushed to Andreas’ aid, which Kanisha says most probably saved his life.
“We’re super grateful for those people that were around to help him when he needed it the most and obviously to all of the staff here that are doing their best – everyone who is helping us get home to our kids,” Kanisha said.
“He’s not doing very well at the moment but each day is getting better.
“It’s the unknown that’s so scary, we don’t know how long it’s going to take.”
“Getting home to my kids is top of the list [for Andreas], I hear it all the time.”
The family have set up a GoFundMe page to help with Andreas’ medical expenses.
A 23-year-old man has been charged with one count of grievous bodily harm.
