1 inmate dead, 2 injured in stabbing at Fulton County jail where Trump was booked

One inmate was killed and two others injured following a stabbing spree at the same troubled Fulton County Jail where former president Donald Trump was recently booked and could be housed if convicted in Georgia.

Multiple stabbings were reported at the prison on Thursday afternoon, with at least one person fatally injured, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office said.

It remains unclear how the stabbings occurred or what the conditions of the two other inmates were.

Police believe the stabbings occurred during a gang-related incident on the seventh floor of the jail, FOX 5 reports.

The prison has been thrust into the national spotlight after the US Department of Justice opened an investigation over the death of LaShawn Thompson, an inmate whose body was found “eaten alive by bed bugs” in 2022.

Thompson, who was only in jail for about three months following his arrest on a misdemeanor simple battery charge, was being housed in a decrepit cell in the psychiatric wing with his body covered in filth and insects.

His family won a $4 million settlement earlier this year.

Along with Thursday’s stabbing, nine inmates have died in the prison so far this year, with five of those deaths happening within the past month.

The prison’s shocking record drew criticism from Trump last week after the former president was arrested and briefly booked at the jail on charges of unlawfully trying to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results.

“It’s violent. The building is falling apart. Inmates have dug their fingers into the crumbling walls and ripped out chunks to fashion over 1,000 shanks,” Trump claimed in a fundraising email to his supporters last Friday. “It’s worse than you could even imagine. Just this year alone, 7 inmates have died in that jail.

“Seeing the third world state of that jail made me even more determined to run for President and save our country from permanent decline,” Trump added.

Trump, a notorious germaphobe, could very well see the dilapidated prison become his new home if he’s convicted of any of the 13 counts levied against him.

Along with the disgusting conditions reported at the prison, the DOJ is also investigating violence on the premises, potential discrimination against individuals with disabilities, healthcare access, and other alleged violations.
