Beverly Hills wig store that serves cancer patients, ransacked by three thieves

Three thieves ransacked a Los Angeles area wig shop that caters to cancer patients, stealing tens of thousands of dollars worth of hairpieces in an early morning burglary within minutes on Tuesday.

The Wig Fairy, a boutique in Beverly Hills that specializes in high-quality, human hair wigs for women suffering from hair loss, was broken into, the store announced.

The thieves, who cops believe are women wearing hoodies and face masks, were caught on surveillance camera shattering the front glass door using poles and rocks around 3:30 a.m.

According to security footage, the thieves carelessly ripped the wigs off the hooks by the handful as they rushed to get as much merchandise in a matter of seconds.

The shop said they closed for business due to the theft, but they did plan to open their doors back up on Wednesday.

“Unfortunately our salon was broken into this morning. We assure you that we’re working tirelessly to get your orders and the salon back on track,” An announcement posted to Instagram read. “Although our doors will be closed today. Please feel free to call us or message us with any questions. We hope to resume regular operation hours Wednesday 8/23.”

The business shares the store with its non-profit arm, the Brave Project, aimed at helping rebuild confidence in women with hair loss issues as a result of cancer treatment, alopecia, burns or genetics.

“They come to us and say, ’Please make me look like myself. The last thing I need is — I don’t want people to give me pity. I don’t want people to know I am wearing wigs,” store owner Mona Zargar said, according to NBC Los Angeles.

“How do I explain to them that I don’t have a wig for you?” she said.

Each wig cost between $1,000 to $4,000 and can take weeks to create, as each one is individually designed and styled for a specific customer.

Salon owner Mona Zargar says the business began seven years ago from her dining room, before finding the current location in Beverly Hills.

“A lot of people that are going through hair loss are very vulnerable and they need a person there for them so I really enjoy providing the service that makes them feel beautiful and feel like themselves again,” Zargar said in a video posted to the store’s website.

Beverly Hills Police are currently investigating the burglary, according to the news station.

Many Los Angeles area businesses have suffered large losses due to retail theft and robberies over the last few months including high-end retail stores.

Earlier this month, nine men walked into a LA Gucci store and swiped thousands of dollars of items in a broad daylight theft.

Three thieves pillaged a Nike store in East Los Angeles before casually walking out the door in a similar incident last week.
