Rikers Island inmate Claude White charged over stabbing mental health clinician with ‘makeshift dagger’: prosecutors

A Rikers Island inmate charged in a fatal knifing aboard a Manhattan subway train has been indicted for allegedly stabbing a mental health clinician at the lockup, prosecutors said Thursday.

Claude White, 24, faces charges of attempted murder, assault, and other raps for allegedly stabbing the victim with a “makeshift dagger” twice in the face and once in the arm on July 29 at the George R. Vierno Center at Rikers, according to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.

The clinician was interviewing another inmate when White came up to him from behind and attacked him with a metal shank, prosecutors alleged.

The victim was taken to the hospital with puncture wounds and “blunt force injuries to his chest,” the DA’s office said.

White, who stands 6-feet-3-inches, was being held without bail on murder charges for the June 17 stabbing death of Tavon Silver.

The 319-pound homeless man allegedly attacked the 32-year-old on the 4 train as it was pulling into 14th Street-Union Square station, police said.

He allegedly plunged the knife into Silver’s heart during a drug deal gone wrong.

The argument broke out after White allegedly gave Silver K2 in exchange for crack cocaine, but Silver smoked it without delivering on his end of the bargain, prosecutors said.

White was also charged with a bank robbery earlier this year.

He was also remanded into custody over the new charges — which also include first-degree attempted assault and first-degree promoting prison contraband, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon — and is due back in court Oct. 12.

“This was a brutal attack on someone who helps people with mental health issues,” District Attorney Darcel Clark said in a statement.
