Man busted after taunting ATF about his stash of explosives

A Tennessee man was arrested after posting a video taunting the feds about his stash of explosives, including pipe bombs and Molotov cocktails, according to police.

Levi Flatt, 30, was busted Monday after the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office was told about a video addressing the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), according to WZTV.

“Hey ATF, let me know if this is legal,” Flatt allegedly says in the video, listing his supplies, “a pound of Tannerite, a pipe bomb, and a wine bottle full of diesel.”

The sheriff’s office immediately contacted the ATF, who worked with local and state police to arrest Flatt later that day as he appeared en route to a local fair, officials said.

Inside his van, officers found three pipe bombs and two Molotov cocktails, police said.

They also found a handgun with a tampered serial number, about 150 rounds of ammunition, a shield and a flak jacket, the report said.

The sheriff’s office said police and two special agents from the ATF were tailing Flatt in his white Chevy van after watching his video.

“While surveilling the vehicle, it went into the parking lot of Putnam County Highway Department located on Veterans Drive, as well as a Walmart shopping center parking lot where he purchased a propane tank,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

The officers grew concerned when they realized that Flatt appeared to be driving towards the Putnam County Fair, which was hosting its 97th annual fair this week, the local outlet said.

The detectives stopped the van and arrested Flatt, who told the officers that the explosives from his video were inside a blue cooler, police said.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol’s bomb squad unit was called to the scene to remove the explosives.

Flatt’s home in Baxter was also searched.

Flatt was charged with possession of prohibited weapons and alteration of serial numbers.

He is being held without bond and is expected to appear in court on Aug. 16,
