Rick Owens’ $5K designer coat compared to the ‘Michelin man’

If you’re looking to sport some tentacles this winter, look no further.

A luxury fashion designer unveiled its new puffer coat for the season, and it’s ringing in at just under $5,000 at Nordstrom.

The jacket — the Oversize Down Cape Coat by Rick Owens — looks like your average puffer until you catch a glimpse of the sleeves.

Cascading off the shoulders and dragging on the ground, the billowing sleeves are what gives the jacket its “cape” moniker.

The luxury outerwear, available in the colors pearl and black for $4,575, is described online as having “dramatically elongated sleeves,” and that’s not too far off. But commenters are having a field day with the impractical, cape-like silhouette.

People compared the coat to the “Michelin man” or “the wavy-arm guy outside your local car dealer.”

“It’s givinggg avante-garde street sweeper,” one reviewer quipped.

“It’s like they used metric to design it and made parts of it in imperial by mistake,” someone else wrote.

“It’s a great coat for going to the movies, going camping and people who like big warm hugs,” said another.

As fashion fans know, Rick Owens is known for its zany and oftentimes impractical designs, like “alien chic,” tent-like clothing and even a collection in which models flashed their penises on the runway.

Despite the online flack, the jacket is already listed as low stock, with only a “few left” of the pearl version and one in black at Nordstrom.

“Rick Owens’ designs are unmistakably his, featuring bold sculptural elements and evocative draping, folding and wrapping,” Nordstrom explained on its site.

One person who purchased the coat said they don’t understand the bad reviews, but the long sleeves still fell short.

“Was a little on the pricier side but for the quality it’s worth it,” the wrote. “Only downside is that although it’s got great coverage for the arms my hands still feel cold?”
