‘It’s giving Colgate Triple Action’

This gala cost a mint – and might taste like it, too.

Clever critics are comparing the Met Gala’s grand entryway to toothpaste.

As fan favorites arrive at this year’s benefit honoring the legendary, yet controversial, fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, viewers at home can’t tear their eyes away from the coveted carpet.

The iconic staircase ascending into the museum is carpeted in beige with vibrant red and blue swirls, bearing an odd resemblance to Colgate toothpaste, according to observers on Twitter.

“Why is the met gala carpet literally toothpaste,” one person scrutinized, to which the official Ulta Beauty account responded, “can’t unsee it.”

“It’s giving Colgate Triple Action Deep Clean Toothpaste,” another said.

“When you leave the lid off the toothpaste,” quipped someone else.

“Is aquafresh toothpaste the sponsor for this year’s met gala red carpet or what cause i’m seeing the similarities,” snarked another user.

“The met gala sponsored by crayola and colgate toothpaste,” volleyed someone else.

But the dizzying carpet pattern actually pays tribute to the way Lagerfeld sketched his plentiful ideas.

Matching the interior’s architectural design by Tadao Ando, there is a rhythmic tension between an S-curve and a straight line, as seen in the late designer’s famed sketches.

The red and blue lines that create an S-like pattern up the Met’s steps “centers first and foremost on the dichotomy of the curved ‘S’ line (think romantic, decorative) and the straight line (modern, minimalist), with one curved wall and one straight wall in each gallery,” according to the Associated Press.

The Met Gala honored the fashion icon, who died in 2019, with this year’s theme “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” which corresponds with the museum’s installation of 14 galleries featuring an anthology of the designer’s work.

Every year, the Met Gala’s carpet is a different hue or pattern – with some celebrities even matching it coincidentally – and this year’s followed the lead of the Academy Awards, which garnered mixed reactions for its champagne carpet.
