Los Angeles tech CEO’s remains found years after he vanished on Uber ride
The body of a digital health app founder was found in the courtyard of an abandoned property in Santa Monica last month, nearly a year and a half after he disappeared, officials announced Monday.
On Saturday, the remains were positively identified as Sober Grid CEO Beau Mann, who was last seen on Nov. 30, 2021, Santa Monica police said.
The 39-year-old’s body was found only about a mile from where his Uber had dropped him off the day he disappeared, according to family members.
Investigators are still working to determine Mann’s cause of death.
“His identity was confirmed through dental records. At this point, we have no further details on what led to his death,” his family said in a statement obtained by Fox News.
Mann had called an Uber from a 7/11 near Sober Grid’s Los Angeles office on the afternoon of Nov. 30. He reportedly texted 911 while he was inside the Uber before he was dropped off in Santa Monica, the company said in a statement.
“Despite exhaustive efforts to find him, Beau was never heard from again,” the statement read.
Mann founded the company in 2015 as “the first digital app to house a 24/7, online, worldwide community for people in recovery” following a struggle with drugs and addiction in his early years. The company said it has saved thousands of lives from addiction and noted Mann’s spirit would live on through its mission to help people in need.
“Beau was a beautiful soul who spent the better part of his life helping others,” his family said. “We miss his infectious smile and positive attitude every day. We know his spirit will live on through his company and passion, Sober Grid, as it continues to help those struggling with the grip of addiction.”
His fiancé Jason Abate posted a heartbreaking statement to Facebook following the news.
“I have so many questions and no answers,” he wrote. “Beau, how can you be gone, how do all of these memories exist so vividly and you’re gone?… Beau, I still have your toothbrush where you left it and every single room in this house has your beautiful spirit attached to it. I can’t move even a inch without seeing you because everything has a memory of us and I can’t breathe.”
