Widow discovers she’s pregnant hours after husband killed
A grieving Utah woman discovered she was pregnant just hours after her husband was crushed to death when their 5-year-old son accidentally made a truck roll over him.
Jonathan Rodriguez, 23, was loading rocks into a truck parked on a slope while fixing his yard in Santaquin on Saturday when his son hopped in the car and pulled on a faulty gear stick, according to cops and an online fundraiser.
The truck trolled back, crushing to death Rodriguez and leaving his 47-year-old mom, Sonia Rodriguez, fighting for her life.
That night, Rodriquez’s grieving widow, Daisy Rodriguez, was rushed to an emergency room due to unspecified “complications.”
“After running some tests, she was told she is currently pregnant,” the widow’s sister, Sara Munoz, said in a heartbreaking update Sunday to a fundraiser.
It was “Jonathan’s last gift” to his wife — “and they didn’t even know it,” she wrote.
“Jonathan was 23 years young with a full life of dreams and goals ahead of him,” his sister-in-law wrote of the “great husband” and “amazing father to his two boys.” The couple also had a 3-year-old son.
“He worked hard to provide his family the beautiful life they had. His life was drastically cut short leaving behind his wife and his kids,” Munoz wrote in the fundraiser that as of Monday had raised more than half its $25,000 goal.
The dead man’s mom “was life flighted to the hospital due to her extensive injuries and is currently awaiting multiple surgeries,” the fundraiser said. It was not clear if his son — who was not listed as being injured — had still been in the truck when it rolled over his dad.
