Soros-backed Kim Gardner facing contempt after murder trial no-show

A George Soros-backed prosecutor in Missouri accused of neglecting her duties may be held in criminal contempt of court after no one from her team showed up to a murder trial.

St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner finds herself in more hot water after Judge Scott Millikan filed the motion following her team’s failure to show up in court on Monday against Jonathan Jones, 18, who is accused of fatally shooting a man in 2021.

“This conduct thwarts and defeats the authority of the Circuit Court of the City of St. Louis,” Scott wrote in his filing, ordering Garnder to offer a legitimate reason why her office failed to show.

If Gardner fails to appear in court or show just cause, Millikan could issue a fine or put the city’s chief prosecutor behind bars.

Jones’s trial has since been delayed for a week while the judge awaits Gardner’s response, with the defense filing a motion to dismiss the case outright.

Gardner’s office did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

The issue with Monday’s trial is reminiscent of three murder cases from 2021, where members of her team either failed to show up to court or came unprepared, leading to the cases being dismissed.

The prosecutor is currently fighting to keep her position as state Attorney General Andrew Bailey looks to remove her from office.

Bailey has filed a suit to oust Gardner, who he claims is not enforcing the law or protecting the public after a teenage volleyball player was hit by a car driven by a man who was out on bond awaiting an armed robbery case.

The plaintiffs argued that Daniel Riley, the suspect, should not have been out on bond because he violated the terms of the agreement several dozen times.

Gardner had argued that her office tried to put him behind bars, but the motion was rejected by a judge.

Court records, however, indicate that no such motions were made from the prosecutor’s office.

The attorney general claims there are nearly 12,000 criminal cases that have been dismissed due to Gardner’s failures.

Gardner, a black woman, has previously condemned the criticism against her, suggesting that the efforts to strip her from power are a form of “voter suppression” and fueled by racism and sexism.

Gardner was among the first prosecutors bankrolled by Democratic mega-donor Soros in 2016 and then again during her re-election campaign in 2020.

She announced last month that she will be running for a third term despite the backlash against her.
