Meta job cuts put chill on Mark Zuckerberg’s office footprint in NYC

Mark Zuckerberg’s announcement that he’s cutting 11,000 jobs from Meta, or 13% of the tech giant’s workforce, sent shivers through Manhattan’s commercial corridors.

The company previously called Facebook was on a real estate expansion roll even during the pandemic, when Zuckerberg said he expected half of Meta’s employees to work from home within five years. It leased 720,000 square feet of offices at Vornado’s Farley Building in August 2020.

Meta also took over 1.5 million expensive square feet at several of Related’s Hudson Yards towers and several hundred thousand square feet more elsewhere in Manhattan.

Meta didn’t respond to e-mails seeking comment on whether it would reduce its office space.
