PSG fans clash with Paris police after Champions League agony
Despair on the field morphed into violence on the streets of Paris on Sunday night.
Fans of PSG clashed with riot police in the city, leading to 148 arrests after the team’s 1-0 Champion League final loss to Bayern Munich.
Paris’ deputy mayor Nicolas Nordman called the violence “intolerable,” according to CNN.
“The perpetrators have nothing to do with the love of football, with PSG, with Paris. They must be condemned,” Nordman said. “Thanks to the police and firefighters who intervened all night.”
The Parisian powerhouse’s defeat was marked by disappointing performances by stars Kylian Mbappé, who has battled an ankle injury of late, and Neymar.
“I’m proud because Neymar played another game where he showed his incredible ability and mentality,” PSG coach Thomas Tuchel said. “As for (Mbappé), it was tough because he had a big injury and missed a lot of training sessions. It’s a miracle he was with us.”
Kingsley Coman’s second-half header was the lone goal of the game.
