1 dead, 6 wounded in shooting at California teen’s birthday

An 18-year-old woman was fatally shot and six others were injured early Sunday morning when gunfire broke out after “uninvited guests” arrived at a California teen’s 19th birthday party.

The tragic incident took place just before 1 a.m. in the Bay Area city of Antioch.

Gunfire broke out after the “uninvited guests” arrived at the party for the 19-year-old man being held at a Sunset Lane home, Fox 2 reported.

Seven people were hit, including two 18-year-olds, two 19-year-olds and two 20-year-olds.

An 18-year-old woman was hit but died from her injuries at the hospital.

The other victims are expected to survive, officials said.

“During the party, multiple shots were fired after some uninvited guests arrived,” Antioch police said in a statement, according to NBC Bay Area.

“This created a panic where attendees, including gunshot victims, fled in multiple directions and into the neighborhood. Many victims drove themselves to local area hospitals,” police said.

Video from the deadly scene reviewed by the news station shows police collecting bullet casings and medics carrying a stretcher out of the home, which remained littered with cups and cans hours after the tragic incident.

A neighbor described the aftermath of the shooting as chaotic, telling the news station, “I saw a couple girls and people by the door hiding behind the bushes. You can see their footprints right there in the rocks, they were running around like crazy.”

The neighbor, who did not want to be identified, noted that this type of violence did not surprise him and seemed to reflect a change in the neighborhood.

Antioch police have not identified suspects or persons of interest.
